How to arrange a game with your circle
By the PikolBond team · Updated · 5 min read
A circle gives your regulars one place to talk. Turning that into a game that actually happens takes a little structure. This routine works for a group of four or forty.
Agree the basics once
Settle these in the circle's description or a pinned conversation, so nobody has to ask every week.
- Format: doubles takes four players a court. Decide whether levels are mixed or grouped.
- A usual day and a time window, with a start and an end time, so people can plan around it.
- Who arranges the court, and how any court fee is shared. PikolBond does not handle money, so agree this among yourselves and keep it simple and visible.
- A fair rotation, so everyone gets to play.
Post a clear invitation
When you post in the circle, choose the circle as the audience so only members see it. Use the same layout every time, so people can scan it.
- Day, date and start time.
- The place, which you have already confirmed that the group may use.
- The level and the number of spots.
- What to bring, and how much each person contributes if there is a fee.
- The cut-off time for confirming.
Confirm the headcount
Ask people to reply in the comments to say they are in, and to say so if they drop out. Count the replies at your cut-off time. If the group is full, keep a reserve list in order of reply. If you are short, post a Looking for players call to the wider community.
Have a backup for rain, a closed court or a no-show, such as a later time or a smaller game.
Sort the court yourself
PikolBond does not list or verify courts and cannot reserve one for you. Check availability and any rules with the venue directly, and tell the circle what you found.
On the day
- Arrive a little early to claim the court and welcome new faces.
- Introduce newcomers to the group and pair them kindly.
- Warm up, drink water and rest in the shade when it is hot.
- Keep the rotation fair and finish on time.
Keep it going
Thank people afterwards, share photos only of people who are happy to be shown, and ask for feedback. Share the organizing: let a different member host each month, and make a second member an admin of the circle so the game does not depend on one person.
On PikolBond today
- Start a circle that is open, request-to-join or invitation only, and add admins.
- Post to the circle so only its members see the invitation, and collect replies in comments.
- Post a Looking for players call to the wider community when you need more players.
